The contraption was not useless. The contraption was ingenious. Physics and what was in the category of magic. Producing something out of nothing. That’s what he’d done. A creation that had never existed before. Creating something out of nothing. That’s what the creation itself did. A creation to create.

A microphone. Some ribbon to record on. And then the creation happens and remains.

He could not keep the invention to and for himself. He did not want the power to create and destroy life, only the material objects consumed him.

Consequently, he’d create someone to be in charge of the microphone and recording. A balding man with gray hair and a mustache. A married man who would have a study where he worked. A fireplace.

A world of his own.

Perspective: Inventor of microphone.
