Abrupt editing is the new joke in comedies. Apart from the single scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, when Jason Segel screams after his photos are deleted, the first time I recognized this editing shtick was during Book Smart. The comedy setup wasn’t based around timing but trimming.

The Bo Burnham: Inside Netflix special reminded me of this style, for he does it a few times there as well as in his previous stand-up shows.
